Miguel Gerónimo de Esparza (1679–1760s) was a Spanish nobleman, Attorney and Regidor of Buenos Aires during the Viceroyalty of Peru.[1]

Personal life

Esparza was born in Buenos Aires, son of Alejo de Esparza (Basque merchant) and Escolástica Rodríguez, daughter of Alfonso Rodríguez.[2] He was married in La Merced church, on July 2, 1706, to Antonia Cabral, great-granddaughter of Amador Vaz de Alpoim and Margarita Cabral de Melo, (descendant of Nuno Velho Cabral).[3] His son Juan Miguel de Esparza, was an important Government Functionary.[4]

Career

In 1719, Esparza was a defender of minors and the homeless.[5] In 1724 had served as a lawyer or adviser.[6] After was appointed perpetual regidor of Buenos Aires, a position he held until 1766.[7] In 1744, Esparza was in charge of the census of City.[8] In 1745, he was elected judge, and years later was appointed alcalde of the city of Buenos Aires.[9]

In 1747 Miguel Gerónimo Esparza, was the Captain in The Presidio of Buenos Aires.[10]
