Metarhinus is a genus of brontothere endemic to North America during the Eocene living from 46.2—42 mya, existing for approximately 4.2 million years.[1]
Taxonomy
Metarhinus was named by Osborn (1908). It is not extant. Its type is Metarhinus fluviatilis. It was assigned to Brontotheriidae by Osborn (1908) and Carroll (1988); and to Dolichorhininae by Mader (1998).[2]
Morphology
A single specimen was examined by M. Mendoza for body mass and was estimated to have a weight of 210.6 kg (460 lb).[3]
