Marek Jan Sanak (born 24 November 1958) is a Polish geneticist and molecular biologist, professor of medical sciences, member of the Polish Academy of Arts and Sciences.
Biography
He attended to Bartłomiej Nowodworski High School and got his high-school certificate in 1977. In 1983 he graduated from the Medical Academy in Kraków.[1] In the same year he began work at the Pediatrics Institute in Kraków.
He attended a three-months intership at Harvard University in 1988. In 1993 he obtained his Ph.D. at the Jagiellonian University and began work as an assistant professor at the Institute of Pharmacology of Polish Academy of Sciences. Since 1995 he has been working also at the Jagiellonian University Medical College, running research mostly in the fields of genetics and molecular biology. In 2007 he received the title of professor of medical sciences.
Sanak published (as an author or co-author) more than 130 original research articles in scientific journals. In 1997 together with Andrzej Szczeklik he received "Lancet Investigators Award" from The Lancet magazine for the research on asthma.[1] In 1999 the Minister of Health and Welfare of Poland awarded him for individual achievemtns in the field of molecular biology.
He also received Jagiellonian University Rector Award (2010), Jagiellonian Laurel (2012),[2] the title of the best lecturer from students of the School of Medicine in English at Jagiellonian University Medical College (2013)[3] and „Pro Arte Docendi” Award (2014).[4]
Since 2008 he is a member of the Polish Academy of Arts and Sciences.[1]
