M5 Üsküdar–Çekmeköy metro line (Turkish: M5 Üsküdar–Çekmeköy metro hattı), is a rapid transit line of İstanbul Metro system, currently under construction in İstanbul, Turkey. It will be the second rapid transit line on the Asian side of İstanbul, the other partly in service since August 2012, the M4 Kadıköy – Kaynarca.[3]

Overview

The construction of the 16.9 km (10.5 mi) long line in the west-east direction with 16 stations between Üsküdar and Çekmeköy, and its connection line to the depot with 3 km (1.9 mi) length began on 20 March 2012. Projected to cost about 564 million, the line is built by the Doğuş Construction Group and was expected to open in May 2015, however the expected opening day has been revised to 20 September 2016. However, the metro did not open then. According to news in turkish TV in November 2016 half of the M5 line (Üsküdar - Ümraniye) will open in January 2017, with driverless trains.

Earlier plans [3][4] to extend M5 to Sabiha Gökçen International Airport in the future has been cancelled, now it's instead M4 which is planned to be extended to this airport.

Stations

The new metro line M5 covers the eastern suburbs on the Asian side of Istanbul; today they are served only by public buses.
