List of recordings made at Abbey Road Studios
This is a chronological list of recordings made at Abbey Road Studios.
1931–1939
- November 1931: The inaugural recording was of “Land of Hope and Glory” with Sir Edward Elgar conducting the London Symphony Orchestra in Studio 1.[1]
- 14/15 July 1932: Yehudi Menuhin made his famous recording of the Elgar violin concerto, with the composer conducting.
- November 1932: Piano Sonata, Funerailles – Franz Liszt, Flight of the bumblebee – Nicolai Rimsky-Korsakov, Petrushka – Igor Stravinsky with Vladimir Horowitz at the piano.
- 25 November 1933: Richard Tauber made the first of over 250 recordings (roughly a third of his output) at Abbey Road, including his last 3 sides on 12 September 1947.
- 23 November 1936: Pablo Casals becomes the first to record Suites No. 1 & 2 from Johann Sebastian Bach's Cello Suites.[2]
- 28 August 1938: Adelaide Hall accompanied by Fats Waller, recorded 'I Can't Give You Anything but Love' and 'That Old Feeling' – HMV Records OEA6391.[3]
1940–1949
- 1943: Symphony No. 5 – Vaughan Williams – World premiere performance conducted by Sir John Barbirolli[4]
- 16 September 1944: Glenn Miller recorded a number of titles with Dinah Shore in Studio 1 – These were the last recordings he made and remained unreleased until their copyright expired in 1994.[4]
