A window to a residential building was blown in and multiple reports of roof damage were relayed. A mesonet on the Huntington Beach Pier recorded a 92 mph (148 km/h) wind gust. [3]

The roof to a grocery store was peeled back, the walls were blown out of a large warehouse, and additional metal buildings were damaged. Many trees were uprooted or snapped, some close to the base. EF2 NNE of Martinez Edgefield 33°38′N 82°02′W / 33.63°N 82.04°W / 33.63; -82.04 (Martinez (Mar. 28, EF2)) 0224 2.39 miles (3.85 km) Two houses and a mobile home were heavily damaged by the tornado, and many trees and power lines were knocked down.
EF2 N of Leesville Lexington 33°59′N 81°30′W / 33.99°N 81.50°W / 33.99; -81.50 (Leesville (Mar. 28, EF2)) 0325 5.01 miles (8.06 km) About 40 houses were damaged, some significantly. A barn collapsed and vehicles, trees and power lines were damaged.

North Carolina
EF1 Belmont Gaston 35°14′N 81°01′W / 35.23°N 81.02°W / 35.23; -81.02 (Belmont (Mar. 28, EF1)) 2137 200 yards (180 m) Brief tornado heavily damaged a mill and damaged several mobile homes in a mobile home park.
EF2 Spencer area Rowan, Davidson 35°41′N 80°26′W / 35.69°N 80.43°W / 35.69; -80.43 (Spencer (Mar. 28, EF2)) 2246 5 miles (8.0 km) A strip plaza, fast food restaurant and numerous houses were damaged, some of which were damaged by fallen trees. A mobile home park was devastated with many mobile homes destroyed and others heavily damaged. Five people were injured.
EF3 N of Thomasville Davidson 35°58′N 80°05′W / 35.96°N 80.08°W / 35.96; -80.08 (Thomasville (Mar. 28, EF3)) 2315 4.29 miles (6.90 km) Over 600 houses were damaged along the path in mostly suburban areas, some of them severely with one losing its entire upper level and another with its upper level bedroom blown away. Several businesses and apartment buildings were also damaged as the tornado ran parallel to U.S. Route 311.
