Lighthouse Foundation for Sri Lanka
Lighthouse Foundation for Sri Lanka is a non-governmental charitable organisation facilitating social, human, and environmental development in Sri Lanka. It provides a range of capacity building initiatives and projects that enable young people (aged 15 to 28 years) to make a positive difference to communities in Sri Lanka.
The charity mainly focuses on assisting Sri Lankan young people from disadvantaged backgrounds. By supporting their energy, ideas, and enthusiasm it enables them to make a positive impact and so advance Sri Lanka’s social, economic, and environmental development. The Charity runs projects to advance their livelihoods and skills through partnership building, knowledge sharing, educational skills training, and self-development initiatives. At present Charity’s priority is to support groups living in regions affected by the Asian tsunami disaster of December 2004.
Vision
The charity's vision is to see a more progressive Sri Lanka in which equality and access to opportunity prevail for all regardless of background, ethnicity or religion. It foresees young people playing a key role in fostering greater social, economic, and political change; by offering alternative solutions, discourses, and approaches they can transform Sri Lanka’s landscape from one scarred by conflict and humanitarian disaster to one which upholds non-discrimination and progress.
Mission
The charity's mission is to bring Sri Lankan young people to the forefront as leaders of positive change. It act as facilitators, enabling isolated or excluded young people to access education and skills development that will help secure sustainable professions and incomes, thus supporting their families for the long term. Charity continually work towards securing greater inclusion for women and girls in decision making processes both at local and regional levels. Also by promoting better education on sustainable environmental management in rural and urban societies, it hope to encourage more young people to think and act more environments friendly.
