Lee McCutcheon

Lee McCutcheon (born 17 February 1977 in Surrey) is a British songwriter, composer and producer.

Career

Lee began his career in music at 16 years old as a programmer, sound engineer and music editor at Skratch Studios in Surrey where he worked with a range of artists including Boyzone, Tom Jones and José Carreras. During this period, he also engineered and programmed on a number of Andrew Lloyd Webber musical albums including Jesus Christ Superstar,[1] Joseph And The Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat and the motion picture versions of Evita[2] and Phantom Of The Opera.[3]

In 2003 Lee re-located to Los Angeles, along with the Skratch Studios team, to work on the music for Season 2 of American Idol. Lee went on to record and mix "Bridge Over Troubled Water" on the double A side single of Runner Up Clay Aiken, which won the Billboard Award for the Best-Selling single of 2003,[4] selling 948,000 copies and entering at number 1 on the Billboard hot 100 chart.[5]

Lee departed Skratch Studios in 2005.

In 2007 Lee wrote and produced a large number of songs and cues for the Series 1 DVD of Brian Elsley's Channel 4 teen drama Skins. The show was nominated for best drama series at the 2008 BAFTA awards.[6] Lee has also written and produced TV themes including Channel Five News and BBC Inside Sport as well as music for advertising campaigns with Adidas and Boots.

In 2010 Lee produced a Live album of the stage musical Les Misérables. More collaboration with Cameron Mackintosh followed with Lee producing albums of Mary Poppins, Betty Blue Eyes and The Miss Saigon Live London Cast Recording in 2014, which entered in the top 25 of the Official UK Album chart.

In 2013 Lee earned a grammy nomination[7] for producing the Soundtrack Album of the Motion Picture of Les Misérables. The album sold over 2 million copies world wide, reaching number 1 on the Billboard Album Chart.[8] The album also became the first Cast Recording to take the Official UK number 1 album position in 16 years,[9] the last being the soundtrack of the motion picture Evita, on which Lee was a Music Editor and programmer.

In pop music, Lee has collaborated with songwriters including Camille Purcell, Paul Barry, Maegan Cottone, Tiffany Vartanyan, Tanya Lacey, Nina Nesbitt and The Vamps. He produced the Debut album for 2011 X Factor contestant Janet Devlin (Running With Scissors[10]) which reached number 1 on the Indie Breakers chart, and also co-wrote Janet's single "House Of Cards".
