Lance Stroll (born 29 October 1998) is a Canadian racing driver competing in the FIA Formula 3 European Championship.

Personal life

Stroll is the son of billionaire Canadian businessman Lawrence Stroll and Claire-Anne Stroll.

Career

Like many race drivers, the Geneva-based Canadian began his motorsport career in karting and recorded numerous race and championship wins in his native Canada and North America.

Early years (2008–2014)

He was nominated by the Fédération de Sport Automobile du Québec as Rookie of the Year in 2008. Also winning the Coupe de Montreal Championship, and crowned Canadian Champion the same year. He won Driver of the Year the following year. In 2010 he won no fewer than four titles in the Florida Winter Tour, in the Canadian ASN Championship and the Coupe de Quebec. In 2011 Stroll ran with Dino Chiesa Team in the Italian Kart Championship and finished eighteenth while in the WSK Euro Series with 44 points to take ninth place in the KF3 class championship. In 2012, the young Canadian continued his experience alongside the team and won the Las Vegas Trophy, finishing fourth in the WSK Master, fifth in the World Championship CIK-FIA, eighth in the Euro CIK-FIA and twelfth in the WSK Euro. In 2013, Stroll competed in the KF category in the CIK and WSK Championships once again with Chiesa Corse team and was recognised as the best rookie.

Formula Three

2015

At the beginning of 2015, Stroll won the New Zealand-based Toyota Racing Series, recording 10 podiums – including four wins – from 16 race starts. The same year he also contested the FIA Euro F3 Series with the Italian Prema team, winning one race outright and achieving 17 top-six overall race finishes in the ultra-competitive 33-race series driving a Dallara F312 Mercedes. Stroll closed out his busy 2015 season – contesting 50 races in all – making his debut in the Macau Formula 3 Grand Prix.

Stroll was part of the Ferrari Driver Academy and the second youngest driver to be signed to a Formula One team. On 11 November 2015, it was announced that Stroll would leave Ferrari to serve as a test driver for Williams.

2016

Stroll remained with the Prema Powerteam, for a third consecutive year, to contest the Euro F3 Series for a second year. He began 2016 by finishing 5th in the Rolex 24 at Daytona in a Ford Chip Ganassi Racing entered Ford EcoBoost Prototype to become the youngest highest-placed overall finisher in the history of the event.

In the 2016 Euro F3 series, Stroll took eleven wins and claimed the title in the second race at Imola, over a hundred points clear of his main rival Maximilian Günther.

Formula One

Williams (2017)

On 3 November 2016, Williams Martini Racing announced that Stroll will drive for them in 2017 Formula One season. He will become the first Canadian F1 driver since the 1997 World Champion Jacques Villeneuve, who coincidentally started his F1 career at Williams.[1]
