Kingsthorpe College (KC), formerly Kingsthorpe Community College and before that Kingsthorpe Upper School, is a secondary school with academy status in Kingsthorpe, Northamptonshire. In 2012 it became a member of the Collaborative Academies Trust.[1] It has about 1,200 students with c.180 in the sixth form.[1] The school moved into a new building in 2007. It has been a specialist sports college with a second specialism in History since 2006.
The school is set on one site, which is located on Boughton Green Road. It was previously on two sites, the other being next to Welford Road, which is on the A5199. The college is a 'sports college', after changing from a Language College and a former ICT College. It is next to the main site of the University of Northampton allowing easy access and use of their facilities.
The year groups are now separated into five colour "houses", namely Green, Gold, Purple, Red, and Blue.
Ofsted
In 2013 Ofsted stated that the scdool required improvement. In 2014 Ofted stated that senior leaders and governors were taking effective action to tackle the areas requiring improvement identified at the 2013 section 5 inspection.
Former pupils
Former pupils include rugby player Ben Cohen, actors Gian Sammarco and Marc Warren, Professor Mark Lindsay of the University of Bath,[2] Professor Calvin Dytham of York University [3] and Professor Mike Thelwall of the University of Wolverhampton.[4]
