Kindred Spirits (sculpture)

Kindred Spirits is a large stainless steel outdoor sculpture in Bailic Park in Midleton, Ireland.[1][2]

The sculpture consists of nine 20-foot (6.1 m) stainless steel[3] eagle feathers arranged in a circle,[1] no two feathers being identical.[4] It was created by Alex Pentek[1][5] at the Sculpture Factory in Cork, Ireland[2] and installed in Bailic Park in 2015.[4]

Kindred Spirits commemorates the contribution of US$170[3] (about $4,300 in 2016 dollars)[note 1] by the American Choctaw Indians to famine relief in 1847,[1] during the Great Hunger, just a few years after the Choctaw themselves had endured the Trail of Tears.[2]
