Karen Tovmasjan (born 5 August 1990 in Yerevan) is an Armenian born Dutch male weightlifter, competing in the 85 kg category and representing Netherlands at international competitions. He trains at CrossFit Keistad in Amersfoort. His trainer is Ashot Ghazaryan, who also is his best friend of his father.[1]

Tovmasjan started doing weightlifting when he was fourteen years old. When he was 15 years old he participated at the 2006 Junior European Weightlifting Championships in Sweden. As an elite he competed at the 2013 European Weightlifting Championships where he was the first Dutchmen to compete in the A category. He also participated at the 2013 World Weightlifting Championships.[2] He won the bronze medal at the 2013 Arabic-Asian Championships. Due to an injury of his coccyx he missed the 2016 European Weightlifting Championships and was due to that not be able to qualify for the 2016 Summer Olympics.[3]

Personal

Karen was the second child in the family Tovmasjan. After he lived in Deventer in the Netherlands he moved with his family to Heino and later to Wijhe.[1] He studied at the Christelijke Hogeschool Windesheim in Zwolle
