Julian Külpmann

Julian Külpmann (born November 2, 1989) is a German drummer.

Biography

Julian Külpmann (bachelor of music / jazz 2013) was born in Hanover on November 2, 1989. He began playing drums at age 7 and piano at age 10. He studied at the Jazz Institute Berlin (Hanns Eisler Music Academy / UdK Berlin - University of the Arts)- with John Hollenbeck, Greg Cohen, Kurt Rosenwinkel, Jeff Ballard, Jim Black, Joey Baron, Dan Weiss and David Friedman. Külpmann has been a member of the Federal Jazz Orchestra of Germany (BuJazzO).[1] He has toured und recorded with dozens of European jazz artists, and received numerous awards including the Mapex Drummer of Tomorrow Award 2007[2][3] in Frankfurt, Skoda Jazz Award 2006 and the Future Sounds Award 2010 from Leverkusener Jazztage with the Achim Seifert Project. Julian Külpmann has been a semifinalist at the Thelonious Monk Jazz Drums Competition 2012 in Washington D.C. He currently is a member of the German jazzband The K Square, releasing the album Blue Desert feat. Nils Wogram and David Friedman in 2013, some new songs recorded at Traumton Studios Berlin. Külpmann was also engaged as studio and live drummer in different Pop rock projects, since 2014 with the Pop Band The Innervault and guitarplayer/singer-songwriter Ron Spielman, since 2015 with the Udo Lindenberg musical Hinterm Horizont (Stage Theater Berlin). He took recording sessions at Hansa Studios Berlin and Peppermint Park Studios Hanover, drumrecording with the Rock Band Between Blue ("Drive"-youtube). Julian Külpmann is endorsed by Yamaha Drums and Meinl Cymbals.[4]
