Jos Debono Jewellers Ltd
Jos. Debono Jewellers is one of the largest and longest standing jewellers in Malta. It was founded by Carmelo Debono in 1899 when very few jewelers were in Malta.[1]
Ownership
Joseph Debono (Carmelo's son) continued the business after his father, but he dealt with difficult times surviving the war. He lost two outlets together with the bulk of the stock. The company is currently in its third generation, and run by Joseph's three sons.
Robbery
In December 2007, the store experienced one of the largest jewelery hold ups to take place in Malta with over Eur 55,000 in diamonds stolen.[2] Three days later the robber was arrested and arraigned in court, although the diamonds were never recovered.
