Johar Ali Khan is a Classical Indian violinist. He is the son and disciple of the Late Ustad Gohar Ali Khan of Rampur, one of the greatest violin genius. He belongs to the Patiala Gharana of Rampur. He is the only living classical violinist from Patiala Gharana after his father - late Ustatd Gohar Ali Khan. His grandfather was Ustad Ali Baksh, the founder of Patiala Gharana, who has produced a number of great musicians like Bade Fateh Ali Khan, Amanat Ali Khan, Asad Amanat Ali Khan, and Hamid Ali Khan.[1]
International achievements
Recently Johar Ali Khan represented India at the 60 years UNESCO celebration in Paris, where he had composed music for melody of dialogue among Civilizations Association. He also represented India at the SAARC Summit in Bangladesh. He represented India in countries including Nepal, Bangladesh, England, Syria, Fiji, Djibouti, Addis Ababa, the Netherlands, Estonia, Spain, Germany, Switzerland, Austria, Hungary, Czech Republic, France, Belgium, Finland, Sharjah, Dubai, several other African countries, and most recently Indonesia - taking role as a teacher of various instruments, through Indian government and some private organizations. Johar Ali Khan has composed music for the South Pacific Games on behalf of ICCR, New Delhi.
National achievements
Johar Ali Khan has performed thousands of Hindustani Violin concerts, in different parts of India, several major cities, towns and villages. He has performed for several government organizations and non-government organizations, including Radio & television. He was a member of advisory committee and general assembly of Indian Council for Cultural Relations (2003–2006).[2] He has created his own band Sargam[3][4] having members belonging to traditional musical families and Gharanas. He has also performed in Taj Mahotsav (2007) and Jhansi Mahotsav (2008) and a regular performer of musical NGO SPIC MACAY. He also performed for Sangeet Natak Academy, Sahitya Kala Parishad, All India Radio, Doordarshan, Punjab Heritage Festival, Rajasthan Sangeet Natya Academy, Rajeev Gandhi Kala Mandir (Goa), Shri Ram Bhartiya Kala Kendra, European Union Cultural Week, National Center for Performing Arts (Mumbai), etc.
