Jason Abraham Roberts is an American guitarist, pianist and vocalist best known for his collaborations with Norah Jones,[1][2][3][4] Hymns,[5] Ben Kweller,[6] and The Candles.[7]
Early life
Roberts attended Appalachian State University with Hymns co-founder, Brian Harding.
Musical career
2004–07: Ben Kweller
Roberts met Ben Kweller at The Living Room shortly after relocating to New York City. Kweller was about to embark on the On My Way world tour and was searching for a new guitarist. Roberts quickly filled this role and played guitar and piano on the tour.[6]
2005–10: HYMNS
In the fall of 2006, Roberts formed Hymns with Brian Harding, Matt Shaw, and Tony Kent, and released the album Brother/Sister. This release was critically acclaimed by Spin Magazine[5] and MTV News.[8] Following the release, the band toured with Ben Kweller, The Lemonheads, Butch Walker and Daniel Johnston and released the albums Travel in Herds (2008) and Appaloosa (2009).
2010–present: The Candles
Roberts is a member of The Candles.[9] The band has toured several times with The Lemonheads, acted as Evan Dando's backing band, and opened for Norah Jones on her Little Broken Hearts Tour.
2012–present: Norah Jones
Roberts is currently touring with Norah Jones,[10][11] in support of her 2012 release Little Broken Hearts. He is her lead guitarist and also contributes back-up vocals. In 2013, along with his bandmates from The Candles, Roberts joined Alberta Cross' live band.
2016–present: Norah Jones
Roberts is currently touring with Norah Jones on her world tour for her new album, Day Breaks.
Other notable appearances
In August 2012, Roberts played alongside of Phil Lesh, Bob Weir, and Mike Gordon at Jerry Garcia's 70th birthday party.[1] The Move Me Brightly event was held at TRI Studios.[12]
In January 2013, Roberts played with Jon Fishman (Phish) at the 'Long May You Run' Benefit Concert in Washington DC.[13]
