Jarad Klein (born 1981) is the Iowa State Representative from the 78th District. A Republican, he has served in the Iowa House of Representatives since 2011. Klein was born in Keota, Iowa.
As of January 2013, Klein serves on several committees in the Iowa House - the Environmental Protection, Labor, and Public Safety committees. He also serves as the Vice Chair of the Agriculture committee and as the Vice Chair of the Agriculture and Natural Resources Appropriations Subcommittee.
Biography
Jarad is serving his second term in the Iowa House.
Jarad is the fifth-generation to grow up on the family farm north of Keota. He graduated from Keota High School in 1999 and purchased his first 80 acres of farmland in Washington County. Jarad went on to attend Drake University.
During his freshman year at Drake, Jarad started his career in politics by serving as an intern for George W. Bush’s presidential campaign in 1999-2000. He went on to clerk at the Iowa Statehouse for two years. During the summer of 2001, Jarad joined the Leadership Institute in Arlington, Virginia. While attending school, Jarad also served as the Southeast Iowa filed representative for the Republican Party of Iowa.
Following school, Jarad returned to full-time production agriculture, but has had interest in politics ever since. Jarad met his wife, Rachel, during their freshman year of college at Drake.
Jarad, Rachel, and their three young children (William, Vivienne, & Henry) live on the family’s farm north of Keota. Rachel is a former teacher and librarian.
Jarad’s current and past membership include: St Mary’s Catholic Church in Keota, Washington County Pork Producers, Washington County Cattlemen Associate Member, Washington County Farm Bureau, Iowa Corn Growers Association, Iowa Soybean Association, National Rifle Association, Pheasants Forever, Washington County Empowerment Board, Washington County Republican Party.
