James Arthur Payne

James Arthur "Jim" Payne (b. winter of 1894, Highland Mills, NY; d. June 12, 1968, Highland Mills, New York USA) was a fly rod maker and designer; son of E.F. Payne and owner of the Payne Rod Co.. He designed and built bamboo fly rods for almost seven decades, having been involved in rodmaking since early childhood. His rods are prized by fishermen and collectors. Experts consider Jim to be one of the great designers and bamboo rodmakers in the history of fly fishing.[1][2]
