Israel will compete in the EuroBasket 2017, the 40th FIBA EuroBasket, Israel’s 29th time competing. The tournament will take place from 31 August – 17 September 2017.
Host city
Following the decision to relocate the 2015 tournament, original hosts Ukraine were offered the chance to host the 2017 edition, but they declined, citing the ongoing unrest in the country.[1] Israel was reported to be one of the teams interested in hosting the tournament.[2]
On 5 November 2015, FIBA Europe announced that five national federations have applied to organize the EuroBasket 2017: Finland, Israel, Poland, Romania and Turkey.[3] On 11 December 2015, FIBA Europe announced that the tournament will be hosted by four countries: Israel, Romania, Finland and Turkey.[4]
Israel, as a host was granted the right to select a partner federation for commercial and marketing criteria. These teams would automatically be placed into the same group as their chosen partner country. On 27 October 2016 Israel chose to partner with Lithuania.[5]

Qualification
Olympic Games or Olympic Qualifying Tournament participants and the host teams all qualified directly to the EuroBasket 2017 Final Round. Therefore, Israel as one of the host nations, automatically qualified for the tournament.[6]
