IndiaSpend.com is a public-interest journalism website based in Mumbai.[1]
The website analyses government policy on issues such as the economy, education, health, agriculture, and security.[2]
It is a non-profit and its stories are defined by a data-driven approach.[3]
History
The website was founded in 2011[4] by Govindraj Ethiraj,[5] a journalist and former editor-in-chief of Bloomberg TV India.
The editor of IndiaSpend.com is Samar Halarnkar,[5] a journalist and former managing editor of Hindustan Times.
Initiatives
During the 2014 general election, IndiaSpend created a YouTube video series titled Mera Neta (my leader) which had candidates responding to questions on different issues.[6]
In 2014, IndiaSpend created Factchecker.in, a website dedicated to fact checking statements made by individuals in public life.[5] A Hindi-language version (IndiaSpendHindi.com) was launched in March 2015.[2]
