The song was released in as a promotional airplay single in the United States only, where it reached number 35 on the Billboard Hot 100 and number 5 on the Hot R&B/Hip-Hop Songs charts. Internationally, "I Don't Wanna" was released as a double A-side with "Come Back in One Piece".
