Hotel Formule 1, or hotelF1 in France, is an international chain of "super low budget" or "no frills" hotels owned by AccorHotels. As of August 2012, the Hotel Formule 1 brand has begun rebranding into the Accor Hotels ibis Styles and ibis Budget brands. In France, some Hotel Formule 1 properties are re-branded into a new, France-only brand called hotelF1. However, in India the hotels are still branded as Hotel Formule1

History

Most Hotel Formule 1 and Etap hotels have been re-branded into the ibis Budget hotels as part of Accor Hotels budget and economy brands.[1]

As of 2015, Accor lists 238 locations in France (hotelF1) and (Hotel Formule 1) locations in the United Kingdom, Belgium, and India.[2] There was an excess of 600 Hotel Formule 1 / hotelF1 hotels in 13 countries worldwide prior to re-branding. As with Etap, most were located in France.

Amenities

Europe

Hotel Formule 1 rooms rent for around €35 per night. The rooms are very basic and whitewashed. The rooms typically each contain a small desk, a television (with cable and international channels dependent on location), a double bed or a double bed with a bunk above, and a sink. There is no toilet or shower in the room; bathing facilities are provided by single-person showers and toilets accessible from the common hallways.

Toilets and showers are automatically self-cleaned after every use. As with most hotels in this price range the doors and hotel entrances in Europe have number-pad locks, eliminating the cost of keycards or mechanical keys.

Formule 1 Hotels in France are known as hotelF1. All hotels are renovated with a new design. Like those in the rest of Europe, they have communal shower and toilet facilities.

Outside Europe

Previous Formule 1 hotels outside Europe (Australia, Brazil, Japan, Indonesia, New Zealand and South Africa) were more akin to the Etap hotels found in Europe, in that the rooms have their own showers and toilets rather than communal arrangements, and keycards rather than coded locks. Some locations offered the choice of a room with either a double bed with a bunk above, two singles with a bunk above, or a queen bed with a set of two bunks. These hotels operate in the budget end of the market.

Communal facilities

All Formule 1 hotels have a breakfast area and a reception desk which is only manned between 0630 and 0930 (0730 and 1030 on weekends and bank holidays) and then from 1700 and 2100, with some variations by country. Outside of reception hours, automatic vending machines allow access via credit or debit card. A self-serve breakfast is available at each site from 7am for about $7. In the bedroom areas (which are colour-coded as red, yellow, orange and purple) in European locations, each coloured zone has a communal shower and toilet.
