Hongjiang (Chinese: 洪江; pinyin: Hóngjiāng), formerly Qianyang County (simplified Chinese: 黔阳县; traditional Chinese: 黔陽縣; pinyin: Qiányáng Xiàn), is a county-level city under the administration of Huaihua, Hunan province, China.
History
Hongjiang was established in 1997 by merging old Hongjiang (current Hongjiang District) and Qianyang. However, the residents of the old Hongjiang resisted this merge. The old Hongjiang was separated from Hongjiang City and form a special Hongjiang District in 1999. The area of the current Hongjiang City is basically the same as that of the former Qianjiang County.
