He Yi was a Yellow Turban rebel leader who occupied Runan during the late Han Dynasty period of Chinese history. As the Yellow Turban Rebellion declined, he and other Yellow Turban remnants like Liu Pi, He Man, and Huang Shao (黃邵) allied with Yuan Shu and Sun Jian in the early 190s, and managed to amass tens of thousands of men by the middle of the decade. In 196 when Cao Cao launched a campaign against them, they all surrendered to Cao after Huang Shao was killed by Yu Jin.
In fiction
In Luo Guanzhong's historical novel Romance of the Three Kingdoms, even after the Yellow Turban Rebellion was over, He Yi still occupied Runan. However, while fleeing from Cao Cao's approaching army, he was captured by Xu Chu, then a volunteer army leader, and executed on Cao's order.
In the Dynasty Warriors series of video games, He Yi appears but is not a playable character.
