Havelock Nelson (born May 6, 1964) is an African-American journalist and co-author of the 1992 book Bring The Noise: A Guide To Rap Music and Hip Hop Culture.[1][2] Nelson was Billboard magazine’s first rap editor.[3]

Nelson has written stories and reviews for Entertainment Weekly[4] and Rolling Stone magazine[5] and has been a contributor to the Huffington Post.[6][7]

Nelson has contributed to Vibe's History of Hip Hop[8][9] (Random House), and been quoted in The New York Times,[10] The Washington Post,[11] and People magazine.[12] He has also appeared twice on TV-One's Unsung,[13] and will host the forthcoming In-Depth with Havelock Nelson[14] which is currently in pre-production.
