Hang Nadim International Airport (IATA: BTH, ICAO: WIDD), also known as Bandara Internasional Hang Nadim, is located in Batam, Riau Islands, Indonesia. Named after Laksamana Hang Nadim, it is currently the only international airport in Riau Islands province. located at south of Singapore. It has been the primary method of transport to and from Batam, alongside ferries to neighboring islands (including Singapore). As Batam continues to develop its tourism sectors, the Hang Nadim has proved a sufficiently effective airport. Originally developed as an alternative airport for Singapore Changi Airport in mind (should in case an emergency for aircraft force a redirect), Hang Nadim has facilities and the longest runway (4,000 m) in Indonesia, sufficient for wide body aircraft Boeing 747s and several times more passengers than it is currently serving. However Changi was developed to grow, and the Sijori Growth Triangle region has 4 airports, including Sultan Ismail International Airport (SENAI Airport) in Johor Bahru and the Seletar Airport.
It has the second longest runway in Southeast Asia, after Kuala Lumpur International Airport, at 4,210 m long.
History
Originally developed as an alternate airport for Singapore Changi (should an emergency there force a diversion for aircraft), Hang Nadim has facilities sufficient for Boeing 747s, Boeing 777s and Airbus A380s, including the longest runway in Indonesia. It can also handle several times more passengers than it is currently serving. Lion Air has developed a base at the airport and built an aircraft maintenance facility, as Jakarta's Soekarno–Hatta International Airport is severely congested.
At end of May 2014, Hang Nadim International Airport became the sixth airport in Indonesia (after Sultan Hasanuddin International Airport in Makassar, South Sulawesi; Ngurah Rai International Airport in Bali; Jakarta's Soekarno–Hatta; Juanda International Airport in Surabaya, East Java; and Kuala Namu International Airport in Medan, North Sumatra) to operate 24 hours a day. The move was the result of many airlines making the airport a hub for their operations.[1]

New terminal
BP Batam, the airport operator, will build a new terminal in 2017 adjacent to the existing terminal. The renovation and expansion of the existing terminal, expansion of the airport apron, and the development of the new terminal will cost Rp. 3 trillion. The new terminal will be the second terminal of the airport. The existing terminal will be expanded from a capacity of 4 million passengers per year to 8 million passengers per year with 6 jetbridges. The new terminal will also able to hold up to 8 million passengers (first phase) per year with 8 jetbridges. In total, both terminals will have a capacity of 16 million passengers per year and 14 jetbridges. Garuda Indonesia, Lion Air, and Incheon International Airport will also help BP Batam, the airport owner and operator on developing the new terminal.
