Yellow flowers appear in racemes between November and February in the species native range. It has not been observed to produce fruits or seeds.[1]

Goodenia lineata was first formally described by botanist Jim Willis in 1967 in Muelleria. The type specimen was collected from the summit of Mount William.[2]

The species is listed as "rare" on the Department of Sustainability and Environment's Advisory List of Rare or Threatened Plants In Victoria. [3]
