Giorgio Li Calzi is an Italian trumpeter, composer and music producer. Born in Turin, Italy in 1965, Giorgio Li Calzi started overdubbing piano and synthesizer as a child, and in 1990 he began to play the trumpet.

His interest in improvisation using electronic stuff is a clear element in his music.

Biography

He studied trumpet in the early 1990s under Enrico Rava's tutorship. In 1990 Giorgio won in Rome the best European Composer Award at the Competition for Young Jazz Talents (RAI/Yves Saint Laurent (brand)). He worked for the advertising industry and won the 1992 award for best Italian composer, for a FIAT jingle, in Milan.

His first album as trumpet player was released in 1994, and after he has produced other 9 albums until today.

In 2003 he collaborated with Wolfgang Flür, historical member of Kraftwerk,[1] who sampled some tracks from the rough mix of "Sweet home with Elena dancing" (from Giorgio's "Tech-set" album out in 2004) and who did "I was a robot", vinyl single (enclosed in 2015 in the Wolfgang Flür album Eloquence) and title of his autobiography.

In 2003 Giorgio collaborated with Lenine, Brazilian singer-songwriter: he recorded voice and guitar in a Giorgio's cover of Janis Joplin Mercedes Benz. Both Wolfgang Flür and Lenine are guests on Giorgio's 2004 "Tech-Set" CD.[2][3][4]

In 2007 he arranged his first work as a theatrical visual director, Lectio Organica I, Dracula.

His album Organum, (released in 2011), features Marconi Union, Thomas Leer, Hayley Alker, Retina.it and Douglas Benford.[5]

His most recent album is ITALIANI, (2013) feat. Gian Luigi Carlone and Johnson Righeira.

Always interested in electronic music, he experiments new electronic sound forms with his trumpet, together with the collective Audio Hacklab, playing with musicians and hackers based in Turin, as Kinetik Laboratories, Pugile, Eniac, Motor.

He’s the artistic director of the festival CHAMOISic, arranged with 'Associazione Insieme a Chamois', in Chamois, Matterhorn valley, the only village in Italy reachable by cableway.
