The Fresh Film Festival (Irish: Féile Úr Scannán) is a festival for young people which takes place in Limerick, Ireland each Spring.

Running since 1997, Fresh Film Festival is a year round organisation. The annual festival includes its competitive event, Ireland's Young Filmmaker of the Year, which screens films made by young people aged between 7 and 18 years.

The Festival

The Fresh Film Festival's main aim is to encourage young people to make films. The festival screens a number of feature films and hosts workshops.

The Jury

Ireland's Young Filmmaker of the Year is judged by a number of film and education professionals and the 1st and 2nd prize winners at the previous years competition.

Festival 2010

The 13th Fresh Film Festival featuring Ireland’s Young Filmmaker of the Year Awards took place in Limerick between the 21 and 24 March 2010. Workshops included a screenwriting workshop with Fast Show writer David Cummings and an animation workshop with artist Michael Fortune. The Young Film-Maker Awards divided into two age categories: Junior (7 –12 yrs) and Senior (13 -18yrs) had an entry of over 160 films from young people from across the island of Ireland. Dublin student Sean Conroy was named Ireland’s Young Filmmaker for 2010 for his timely film 'Dystopia' which details the coming to power of an authoritarian leader in Ireland following an economic collapse.

Festival 2011

Fresh Film Festival 2011 was held between the 28th and 31 March.

Workshops

Workshops included a Videogame Design Workshop and a Filmmaking Workshop by Eugene O'Connor.^[2]

Screenings

The animated feature film Persepolis was screened on the 28th.^[3]

A collection of international short films made by young people from across Europe, Palestine and South Korea was screened under the title "Kids on the Move".

Award Ceremony

The award ceremony for the senior category was held on the 30th of March,^[4] and awards were given by Rob Ross, RTÉ presenter. The junior category were screened on the 31st, and awards were given out.

2006 winner Eoghan McQuinn won first prize in the 15- to 20-year-old category at the Berlin Youth Media Festival, 2007, for his film 'The Cycle'
2005 winner Glenn Lambert was brother of Jonathan who won in 2004.
2nd prize winning director in 1998, Conor McMahon released his feature film 'Stiches' starring British comedian Ross Noble (2012).
