Flameskull
In the Dungeons & Dragons fantasy role-playing game, the flameskull is an undead.
Publication history
The flameskull was introduced to the D&D game in the second edition of Advanced Dungeons & Dragons.
Advanced Dungeons & Dragons 2nd edition (1989-1999)
The flameskull appears first for the Forgotten Realms campaign setting in Dragon #197 (September 1993) in the "Dragon's Bestiary" column, and was later reprinted in the Monstrous Compendium Annual Volume One (1994).
Dungeons & Dragons 3.5 edition (2003-2007)
The flameskull appears in Lost Empires of Faerûn (2005).[1]
Dungeons & Dragons 4th edition (2008-2013)
The flameskull appears in the Monster Manual for this edition (2008), including the great flameskull.[2]
Dungeons & Dragons 5th edition (2014-)
The flameskull appears in the fifth edition Dungeons & Dragons Starter Set (2014).
Description
The flameskull is a tiny undead guardian created from the skull of a recently slain humanoid spellcaster.
