Early life
(born 29 August 1962) is the member of the National Assembly of South Africa since 7 May 2014 and he has been a member of African National Congress since 1980. Mr Mahlalela studied at Nkomazi High School and obtained his matric certificate, he has then furthered his education by obtaining a Honors Degree in Governance and Leadership from the WITS university. He was born in the village of Mpumalanga Province called Mbuzini. He used to be a teacher at a secondary school teaching Maths and Science. He was considered one the best Maths teachers during 80s in the nkomazi municipality region. He then left teaching and started pursuing his political career.
Career
Mr Mahlalela joined Umkhonto We Sizwe and underwent training in Ethiopia from October 1986 to March 1987, he also went through a commanders course in Angola. He was then a Military Instructor at the Barney Mlokwane and Moses Mabhida camp. in 1989 to 1991 he went on to do Underground work for the ANC until feb 1991, from 1991 he was named in the ANC provincial executive committee of which he is still continuing work with. From April 2002 to June he was the ANC Provincial Chairperson and an NEC Member.
He served as a Member of Executive Council (MEC) for Education, Environment and Tourism, Culture Sports and Recreation, Local Government, Roads and Transport, Community Safety and Security, Health and Social Development throughout his time at Mpumalanga province. He was the chairperson of Association Of Public Accounts (APAC) from June 2009 to April 2013. During that time, he was also the Chairperson of Southern Africa Development Committee of Public Committees (SADCOPAC).
Mahlalela holds a seat for ANC in the National Assembly of South Africa and is the ANC Whip for PC ON HEALTH; ANC CLUSTER WHIP_SOCIAL TRANSFORMATION.
