My Uncle's Wedding is a 2011 book written by Eric Ross designed to explain same-sex marriage to children. Inspiration for the book was derived from the author's experience of planning his own same-sex marriage.[1] The book was written for children between the ages of 4-8.[2]
The description of the book is "There’s so much to do now that Uncle Mike and Steve are getting married. Follow Andy on this enjoyable journey as he talks about his uncle's wedding, how it affects him, and the things he gets to do in preparation for the ceremony. You’ll laugh and smile as you read this adorable story about marriage and family."[3]
Upon its release, the book was described by Molly McKay of Marriage Equality USA as "the perfect gift for any child who loves a good story and especially children with gay people in their family."[4][5][6] The book was endorsed by the Family Equality Council.[7] The website Mombian generally praised the book, but criticized it for lack of originality, noting its similarity to 2008's Uncle Bobby's Wedding.[1]
During the official book release, California Senator Mark Leno presented Rosswood with a Senate Certificate of Recognition for My Uncle's Wedding, stating the book's "vital role in creating a brighter future."[8]
The book was on Amazon.com's best seller list in the Gay and Lesbian section and the Family and Parenting section.[9]
