Entrepreneurship Cell, IIT Kanpur
Entrepreneurship Cell, IIT Kanpur (E-Cell) is the primary student body of IIT Kanpur that promotes entrepreneurship among students across the country.
Vision
The basic aim of E-Cell is to empower India by encouraging the entrepreneurial spirit and facilitating the budding entrepreneurs with resources and to act as a bridge between the major components of the entrepreneurial ecosystem; students, working professionals, existing and aspiring entrepreneurs, angel investors, venture capital firms and corporates and bring out more companies like Flipkart and Snapdeal.[1]
History
E-Cell was formed in 2008 under the initiative of Student's Gymkhana and some professors. It was re-instated in 2010 and brought under the SIDBI centre of IIT Kanpur.
Activities
E-Cell conducts a plethora of activities throughout the year, which includes workshops, guest lectures by country's top entrepreneurs and various business competitions, for the benefit of students within IIT Kanpur.
Entrepreneurship Summit
The Entrepreneurship Summit is the flagship event of E-Cell which showcases the latest trends in the global entrepreneurial ecosystem and provides a platform for the entrepreneurs to raise funds and get mentors.[2][3]
Initiatives
Deferred Placement Program (DPP)
With the start-up ecosystem in the country getting stronger, the campus Placement Cell of IIT Kanpur and the Entrepreneurship Cell came up with the Deferred Placement Program (DPP).Under this initiative students who are planning to take up entrepreneurial activity and go on with their startup would be given the option to defer their placement program for a maximum of 2 years.[4]
