"Einmal sehen wir uns wieder" (English translation: "One Day We'll See Each Other Once Again") was the German entry in the Eurovision Song Contest 1961, performed in German with one verse in French by Lale Andersen (23 March 1905 – 29 August 1972).[1] When entering the Contest in 1961, Andersen was arguably that year's most established and well-known artist, not only in Europe but worldwide; in 1939, she had recorded the original version of wartime evergreen "Lili Marleen".
The song was performed eighth on the night (following Sweden's Lill-Babs with "April, April" and preceding France's Jean-Paul Mauric with "Printemps, avril carillonne"). At the close of voting, it had received 3 points, placing 13th in a field of 16.
The song is a ballad, with Andersen farewelling her lover and promising that they will see each other again "maybe...next year".
It was succeeded as German representative at the 1962 Contest by Conny Froboess with "Zwei Kleine Italiener".
