He was the former Minister of Plantation Industries and Commodities in the Barisan Nasional government cabinet until his resignation after his appointment as Deputy Chief Minister of Sarawak.[5] Uggah was appointed to the Cabinet after the 2008 election, to replace Azmi Khalid as Minister for Natural Resources and Environment.[6] He had previously served in non-Cabinet government posts such as Deputy Minister for Transport,[7] and Parliamentary Secretary to the Prime Minister.[8] After the 2013 election, he was appointed as Minister of Plantation Industries and Commodities under the new Cabinet of Prime Minister Najib Razak.[9]
