Susan "Dee" Haslam[2] (née Bagwell; born July 5, 1955) is an American businesswoman who is the current CEO and Executive Producer of RIVR Media, RIVR Media Interactive, and RIVR Media Studios. She is the wife of Pilot Flying J CEO Jimmy Haslam. She and her husband are the owners of the Cleveland Browns NFL team, and Dee serves as president of the Cleveland Browns Foundation.[3]

Early life and education

Haslam is the daughter of Ross Bagwell Sr., the founder of what is now HGTV,[4] and his wife Sue Burchfield.

Career

Before RIVR Media, there was Bagwell Communications, founded by Ross Bagwell Sr., Haslam's father. In 1999, Haslam and her business partner, Rob Lundgren, took over Bagwell Entertainment and renamed it RIVR Media. RIVR Media has produced several well-known series, including Trading Spaces for TLC, World Series of Poker for The Discovery Channel, Whale Wars for Animal Planet, and Renovation Realities for HGTV and DIY Network. Haslam was also integral in the creation of RIVR Media Interactive's Moving Picture Books, an animated children's literature series. In 2012, Haslam founded a film company called Nest Features, which specializes in films centered on Southern culture.[3]

Haslam is a member of the National Association of Broadcasters,[5] the National Association of Television Program Executives, the Women's Business Enterprise National Council,[5] Women in Cable Telecommunications, the Academy of Television Arts & Sciences, the International Women's Forum,[6] and the Society of International Business Fellows,[7] She is Chair of the Board of Directors of East Tennessee Children's Hospital, Chair of the Board of Directors of Knoxville's Lakeshore Park,[8] and President of the Cleveland Browns Foundation.[9] She is a member of the boards of the Emerald Youth Foundation,[5] the University of Tennessee Foundation, the Nantucket-based preservation group 'Sconset Trust,[10] Tennessee's State Collaborative on Reforming Education (SCORE), and the Dean's Advisory Board for the University of Tennessee College of Business.[11] She is also active with the United Way chapters of Greater Cleveland and Greater Knoxville.[12]

Honors and awards

Haslam received Emmy nominations for her work with Whale Wars as well as for "Outstanding Special Class Series."[5][6] Her other awards included a Parents' Choice Award for Moving Picture Books,[6] a Genesis Award for Whale Wars, a Delta Delta Delta Community Volunteer Award,[5] a YWCA Tribute to Women Community Service Award,[5] a Junior Achievement Business Award,[5] the New York Festivals World Medal,[6] and numerous ADDYs and Tellys.[5]

Personal life

Haslam is married to Jimmy Haslam of Pilot Flying J travel centers. She has three children: Whitney Haslam Johnson, Cynthia Haslam Arnholt, and James E. Oakley III.

She resides in Knoxville, Tennessee, and Bratenahl, Ohio.[3][13]
