Daniel Lalhlimpuia (born 12 September 1997) is an Indian footballer who plays as a striker for Bengaluru FC in the Indian I-League.
Career
Youth career
Born in Mizoram, Daniel at the young age of ten-joined the Chandigarh Football Academy after successfully passing in the trials.Under the coaching of former India international Harjinder Singh he went on to represent Chandigarh in age level tournaments and various age group teams of India.[1] In 2012 Daniel scored a stupendous 19 goals for Chandigarh Football Academy to become top goal scorer of the Administrator’s Challenge Cup. In 2013 he was inducted in the AIFF Elite Academy at Goa, where he stayed for the following 3 years before signing his first professional contract.[2]
Bengaluru FC
On 17 November it was announced that Daniel has signed for Bengaluru FC alongwith fellow AIFF Elite Academy products Nishu Kumar and Malsawmzuala on a two-year deal with the club having the option to extend it by a year.[3]
On 24 February 2016 Daniel made his professional debut in an AFC Cup match against Lao Toyota F.C. coming-on as 69th-minute substitute for Shankar Sampingiraj at the New Laos National Stadium.
On 5 April 2016 Daniel scored his debut goal in I-League in only his third appearance for the club.[4]
Chennaiyin FC
In September 2016, Daniel was loaned out to Chennaiyin for the 2016 Indian Super League season by Bengaluru FC.[5]
International career
In 2011 Daniel represented India U16 at the 2011 SAFF U-16 Championship where he scored 2 goals,including one in the final,which India eventually lost to Pakistan.[6] The same year he scored 3 goals in the 2012 AFC U-16 Championship qualification held in Tashkent and thereby securing India's qualification.[7]
In 2012 he scored in a friendly match against UAE U16[8] as preparations for 2012 AFC U-16 Championship. Daniel scored once against China U16 at the 2012 AFC U-16 Championship held in Tehran where India finished last in the group and failed to qualify for the next round.[9]
In 2013 Daniel was called up to the India U19 team for a preparatory camp in China,[10] for the upcoming 2014 AFC U-19 Championship qualification in Doha.
In August 2015 Daniel was made the captain of India U19 for the 2015 SAFF U-19 Championship.[11] He also represented India at the 2016 AFC U-19 Championship qualification, where the team failed to score any goals and were eliminated.
Daniel made his debut for the senior team on 3 September 2016, against Puerto Rico in a friendly, when he was substituted in for Sunil Chhetri in 78th minute.
