Cherai Gowreeshwara Temple

Cherai Gowreeshwara Temple is one of the main Hindu temple in Kerala state, south India. This temple is in Cherai village in Ernakulam district of Kerala. The temple is maintained by Vinjhana Vardhini Sabha (V. V Sabha). This temple is the one and only temple in Asia which is chathurmukha kovil(sree kovil with four side doors) It also known as Malayala palani മലയാള പഴനി or Muruga Temple. the main god is subrahmanyan, but the name of the temple is dedicated for sreegowreeswaran (sivan= father of subrahnanyan). The Cherai Gowreeshwara Temple festival is one of the main festivals in the Eranakulam district. The festival happens every year towards the last 2 weeks of January or first 2 weeks of February. The main attractions are caparisoned elephant march (around 20-30 elephants).

There is one more famous temple in Cherai, which is Azheekkal Sree Varaha Temple famous for its beautiful chariot.
