Charlotte's Professional Women's Basketball Team
The Charlotte Invasion is a professional women's basketball team located in Charlotte, NC. They are going into their 4th season as a member of the Women's Blue Chip Basketball League (WBCBL). They won a National Championship in 2015 in only their 2nd year in the league, as well as, back to back regional championships in 2015 and 2016.
The Charlotte Invasion joined the WBCBL in 2013 as the only team in the Charlotte area and carries that title going into 2017. The WBCBL is a professional development league of over 40 teams nationwide. The mission of the WBCBL is to provide highly competitive basketball for women age 20 and older with many of these players going overseas or to other professional leagues.
Tonya Phifer announced ownership of the franchise, Charlotte Invasion, in 2013. She was born, raised and educated in the Charlotte area having secured scholarships to Charlotte Latin and later UNC-Charlotte. Her basketball career is still notable with several offensive records currently intact at both area schools. After being invited to the WNBA combine in 2001, Phifer considered a professional career in the states as well as abroad. She finally settled into her professional career in private investigations and has excelled in her industry with her own private firm, JPPI Investigative Services.
In 2015, Charlotte Invasion boasted a perfect season going 15-0 and winning the National title in Greenville, SC in only its second season in the league. Their championship bid was cut short in 2016 with a loss to the 2014 national champions, St. Louis Surge, in the semi-final round.
Players Going Pro
Being a part of the WBCBL allows athlete's talents and skills to be evaluated by professional basketball scouts and agents. The network of agents has a proven track record of job placement for dozens of athletes who are currently playing professional basketball. Charlotte Invasion has several players that have advanced to the Euro league, including, Tiffany Brown, Lindsey Montgomery, Kelsey Harris, and Amanda Dowe.
The Mission
Charlotte Invasion's mission is to engage and empower the athletic community through service, support and heart healthy lifestyle education and this mission extends well beyond the regular season. Charlotte Invasion is a year-round civic-minded organization with several partnerships geared toward consistently adhering to the mission. They provide educational outreach to athletes, team members, and supporters on promoting a healthy heart and lifestyle and partner to raise awareness on Sudden Cardiac Arrest (SCA) and administration of CPR. The goal of this organization is to change the landscape of Charlotte sports for years to come.
