Chandrapura is a community development block that forms an administrative division in Bermo subdivision of Bokaro district, Jharkhand state, India. It is located 25 km from Bokaro Steel City.
Geography
Chandrapura is located at 23°44′44″N 86°7′8″E / 23.74556°N 86.11889°E.[1]
Chandrapura CD Block has 23 panchayats and 31 villages.[2]
The Damodar passes through this block. Chandrapura Thermal Power Station stands on the southern bank of the Damodar.[3]
Demographics
As per 2011 Census of India Chandrapura CD Block had a total population of 132,162, of which 48,776 were rural and 88,386 were urban. There were 83,386 males and 68,881 females. Scheduled Castes numbered 14,917 and Scheduled Tribes numbered 11,260. Population below 6 years was 18,110.[4]
Chandrapura CD Block has several census towns (2011 population figure in brackets): Telo (14,274), Narra (5,390), Chandrapura (27,425), Termi (5,111), Bursera (4,070), Sijhua (4,376) and Dugda (27,740).[4]
Literacy
As per 2011 census the total number of literates in Chandrapura CD Block was 86,011 (75.41% of the population above 6 years) out of which 50,940 were males and 35,071 were females.[4]
As per 2011 census, literacy in Bokaro district was 72.01[5]Literacy in Jharkhand (for population over 7 years) was 66.41% in 2011. [6]Literacy in India in 2011 was 74.04%.[7]
Economy
The 890 MW Chandrapura Thermal Power Station of Damodar Valley Corporation at Chandrapura was placed in commercial operation progressively between October 1964 and July 2011.[8]
Dugda Coal Washery of Bharat Coking Coal Limited at Dugda has two units: Dugda I with annual capacity of 1 million tonnes per year washes non-coking coal, Dugda II with annual capacity of 2 million tonnes per year washes coking coal.[9]
