Biography

Loo was born and raised in Perlis,[3] Kedah, Malaysia.[4] When he was six, his hobby of drawing comic books led to his first business venture, where he sold the books he made for RM0.50.[5]

He earned a degree in biotech from Monash University in Melbourne, Australia.[1] After his graduation, he returned to Malaysia and worked for a biotech company for two years in sales. Unhappy with this job, he decided to start his own business, and looked into the possibility of selling bubble tea.[6]

He travelled to Taiwan with his father and approached five companies with an offer to bring their brand to Malaysia; all rejected his offer. His cousin, who had just returned from Taiwan, later told Loo that Chatime was looking to expand.[6] He contacted them and its CEO flew to Malaysia to meet him within 24 hours.[4] Following the meeting, he was given the master franchise for Malaysia.[6]

Chatime is currently the fastest-growing beverage brand in Malaysia, and Loo leads the fastest-growing Chatime franchise in the ASEAN region, opening 100 outlets in three years.[5]

In 2011, Loo was nominated for the MRCA 8TV Entrepreneur Award, organised by the Malaysian Retailer Chains Association (MRCA) and 8TV.[7] He was the winner of the Best Master Franchiser award in 2012.[1]
