Bahalda is a small town in northern Odisha in Mayurbhanj district in India. Bahalda was the capital of Mayurbhanj in the 14th century. Maa Kichakeswari Temple, one of the most famous in northern Odisha, is situated in the middle of the town. Maa Kichakeswari is a local deity.
Geography
Bahalda is located at 22°24′N 86°05′E / 22.40°N 86.08°E.[1] It has an average elevation of 234 m (768 ft). It is situated 57 km away from Jamshedpur and 97 km away from Baripada, the district headquarters.
People
The majority of the population in the area are tribals, predominantly Santals. They are simple, clean by heart and practise agriculture-cultivation for a living.
The town has a small market place and weekly haat for need of the people around. It is one of the gateways to the Jharkhand State. Annual sports is very popular, which is celebrated at par with the festivals.

Transport
It is connected with the State Capital Bhubaneswar by bus which are plied during night. Nearest railway station is Bahalda Rd on Tata-Badampahar rail route.
Temple
Kichakeswari Temple is sited in Bahalda, the capital of Mayurbhanj kingdom in the 14th century. It lies at a distance of 97 km from Baripada. Dedicated to Goddess Kichakeswari, the temple is known for its architectural beauty.

Bahalda Horse Riding Club
The Bahalda horse riding starts from Bahalda and rides through the villages, temples & monuments around Bahalda local area. It provides an opportunity to the tourists to come closer to the local people and peep into their culture, customs, way of life and other rituals, which is not possible for the normal tourist. Bahalda horse riding has got a team of such experts who can cast a spell on the minds of tourists and that will be an everlasting experience. You can choose between one of the finest string of thoroughbred, half-bred horses. Horse riders must have prior experience of horse riding. Average distance covered daily is 16-20 kilometers.
Politics
Current MLA from Bahalda Assembly Constituency is Prahlad Purty of JMM, who won the seat in State elections of 2004. Previous MLAs from this seat were Laxman Soren of BJP who won this seat in 2000, Khelaram Mahali who won in 1995 representing JPP and as an independent candidate in 1990, Bagey Gobardhan of JNP in 1985, Rama Chandra Hansda of INC(I) in 1980, and Sunaram Soren of JNP in 1977.[2]
Bahalda is part of Mayurbhanj (Lok Sabha constituency).[3]
