Arup Chandra,[1] ‘অরূপ চন্দ্র’ born in Murshidabad district in 1951, is a writer, a poet, an essayist, an art critic, and an educationalist.[2] He is the writer of more than thirteen books, and has edited five others. His research speciality is the history, poetry, art, culture and literature of Murshidabad District.
Profession & Works
Took various professions at the beginning, sold even glassware, batteries and etc. Later got a job as a medical representative in a Kolkata based company. In latter years he got a drug license and started a business of medicine. 1 September 1977 he established his dream organization - Chandra Commercial & Art Institute, in Palashipara in Nadia district; which presently is a renowned vocational training institute in Eastern India.
His most known works are related to education, arts, literature and history. He remarkably researched and developed 'Bengali Shorthand'; presently 'Arup Chandra Bengali Shorthand System'[3] is the most popular 'Bengali Shorthand System' in Bengal. A list of his 'Books' is attached herewith. As an editor of Basabhumi Patrika, he always manifested the struggle of people, and their art & culture. A list of 'Special Issues of Basabhumi Patrika' is also attached here. As the secretary of 'Little Magazine Sanrakshan & Gobeshona Kendra, Berhampore', - a little magazine preservation centre, he is very busy in preservation of thousands of old & new little magazines, this organization also gives chances to other researchers to collect information for their works. He is also the secretary of 'CCAI-Basabhumi Award Committee', a foundation that felicitates and awards the persons for their remarkable contribution in the field of art-culture and social movement, since 2008.

- The first notable award Mr. Arup Chandra received in the year of 1986 securing 'First' position in a district level poetry competition in the district of Nadia, West Bengal.
- Academy of Music and Fine Arts, Barrackpore, Kolkata honored him with an 'Upadhi' (an honorary title) - 'Shastri' on 6 September 1992 at Sukanta Sadan, Barrackpore.
- Received 'memento' in honor in the occasion of 'Berhampore Grant Hall Centenary Celebration'. (2003)
- Received 'memento' in honor, in the occasion of 130th anniversary celebration of Berhampore Municipality. (2007)
- Arup Chandra was 'Felicitated' by 'Murshidabad District Kobita Academy' on their 125th poetry-assembly on 7 March 2010.
- He was Awarded with 'Acharya Prafulla Chanda Roy Smarak Samman-2010' by 'Academy of Bengali Poetry, Kolkata', at National Library, Kolkata.[9]
- He was Awarded with 'Kabiguru Rabindranath Tagore Smarak Samman-2011' by 'Academy of Bengali Poetry, Kolkata' on 16 April 2011, at Moulali Yuva Kendra.[10]
- He was Awarded with 'Barnaparichay Sahitya Samman-2011' for his work on 'Basabhumi Patrika' - 'Khuda Daridro Anahar (Eei Desh Eei Samay) Sankha-2011'. The award ceremony was held on 17 December 2011 at Kolkata Town Hall.[11][12]
- Received Award on behalf of 'Basabhumi Patrika' from 'Prabrajja' Patrika - 'Prabrajja Patrasathi Puraskar-2012' on 27 July 2012.
- He was Awarded by "Kali Kumar Kala Kendra, Berhampore", for his lifetime work in Art and Painting, on 23 December 2013 at Berhampore Grant Hall.[13]
- He was Awarded with "Trinayonne Padak" (on 16 November 2014), Kandi Trinayonee Sahitya Sansad, Kandi, Murshidabad.[14]
- Received Certificate of Honor from Biswabharati, Sreeniketan oi the occasion of "Gramin Kabi O Sahityiek Sammelan" as a poet, in the year of 2014, at Sreeniketan Sikshasatra Manch.

- He was invited to Bangladesh,[16][17][18] by "Bangladesh Jatiyo Sahityo Parishad, Chapai Nawabgunj Sakha" to attend a literary assembly of the poets and writers of both the countries of India and Bangladesh, during 14 December 2015 to 17 December 2015, and attended many social, cultural, and literary functions & seminars, and also received felicitation from twelve organizations there. - He has been certified by honorable Dr. Rejia Sultana, the principal of "Nawabgunj Govt. College" for presenting a paper titled "Biswa Shilpakala o Bangladesh" (The world Arts and Bangladesh) in the 'International Level Seminar' arranged at "Nawabgunj Govt. College" on 16 December 2015.
