Artistic Tile is a major luxury distributor of tile and stone in the United States and is renowned for their innovative designs. Founded by CEO Nancy Epstein in 1987, the company is a family-run business, headquartered in Secaucus, NJ. Artistic Tile products, including Waterfall Bathroom Furniture, are distributed through nine Artistic Tile showrooms and a network of more than 180 dealers across the United States.
Company background
History and inspiration
Founder and CEO Nancy Epstein got her start in the interior design industry in the 1980s after designing custom cabinets for her son lead to a job offer at a cabinetry showroom in Tenafly, NJ. She wanted to expand the showroom’s business by offering a greater selection of tile, which eventually lead to a proprietorship of importing and designing unique tile. Much of Artistic Tile’s products are a result of Epstein’s world travels in search of natural materials, undiscovered artisans, and pattern inspiration.[1]
Acquisition and collaborations
In 2011, Artistic Tile acquired the Waterfall Bathroom Furniture line of products, allowing the brand to offer customizeable vanities.[1] In 2016, the brand launched its first collaborative collection with interior and jewelry designer Michael Aram to create the Michael Aram Collection for Artistic Tile. The collection was a response to requests from their shared clientele and debuted at the company’s New York City showroom.[2][3]
Showrooms
Artistic Tile opened its flagship showroom on 5th Ave New York City in 1998. The showroom relocated to 21st Street New York City in 2007. Artistic Tile opened a showroom in Paramus N.J. in 1993, followed by a showroom in White Plains, NY in 1997. In 2001, 2 new showrooms were opened in Shrewsbury, N.J. and the NY A&D Building. Additional showrooms opened in Chicago and Manhasset in 2008, San Francisco in 2010, and Dallas in 2014. In 2015, Artistic Tile held the grand opening for a 25,000 square foot slab gallery in Secaucus, N.J. which features many stone and porcelain slab options from around the world. [4] The company currently has 9 exclusive showrooms.
Industry awards and honors
In 2007, Artistic Tile won Interior Design’s Best of Year 2007 Products for Horta mosaic pattern.[5] The Ziva collection was named a winner in 2010.[6] In 2011, their Granada tile won the same award, and their Estrella hand crafted tiles won in 2012.[7][8]
In 2013, founder and CEO Nancy Epstein was named as one of Tile Letter’s Women in Tile.[9]
Sustainability and charitable efforts
Artistic Tile uses solar panels on the roof of its headquarters to decrease reliance on the city’s energy. Up to 85% of the production/warehousing facility is solar-powered. Additionally, the company recycles scrap material and shipping supplies and filters captured rainwater.[10] Artistic Tile is a member of the SmartWay Transport Partnership, a collaboration between the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) and the freight industry to increase efficiency and reduce greenhouse gases and air pollution.[11]
In 2008, the company donated 60 tons of tile to residents of the city of New Orleans to assist with rebuilding their homes destroyed by Hurricane Katrina.[12] Artistic Tile also donates tiles and other materials to causes such as Habitat for Humanity and Women’s Housing & Economic Development Corporation. The company also supports the Alzheimer’s Foundation, the Avon Walk for Breast Cancer, the Lance Armstrong Foundation, Alpha Workshops, Supplies for Success, the Israel Project, and other foundations.[13]
