Amy Leach (born 14 April 1981[1] in Darwen, Lancashire[2]) is a British theatre director.
Background
Hailing from the north of England, Leach read English Literature at the University of Durham and trained on the Director's Course at the Royal National Theatre,.[1] After graduating in 2002, she co-created the theatre company En Masse, which creates theatre for families and young people.[2]
Career
With En Masse, Amy has directed and produced UK tours of Spaceship ’87, The Echo Chamber, The Ignatius Trail, The Shelter, The Iceberg and We All Fall Down, as well as directing The Wonderful Wizard of Oz in co-production with the Dukes Theatre, Lancaster. Her productions of The Echo Chamber and The Ignatius Trail won Fringe First Awards at the Edinburgh Festival Fringe in 2003 & 2004.[3]
Leach works as a freelance director and is currently an Associate Artist of The Dukes in Lancaster, The Egg (Theatre) in Bath, Shakespeare Schools Festival and the National Youth Theatre. Her recent directing credits include Arabian Nights for the Library Theatre Company at The Lowry; Sabbat, The Rise and Fall of Little Voice, Peter Pan and My Mother Said I Never Should for the Duke's Playhouse; Peter Pan, Wilde Tales, Oliver Twist, The Animated Tales of Shakespeare and The Grimm Brothers’ Circus for The Egg; and Dr Korczak’s Example for the Royal Exchange, Manchester.[4]
In 2008, Leach won the Manchester Evening News (M.E.N.) Theatre Award Best Studio Production for her direction of Dr. Korczak's Example at the Royal Exchange. In 2012, Leach's production of Arabian Nights was nominated for Best Production, Best Design and Best Ensemble in the Manchester Theatre Awards (M.T.A.), winning in the Best Ensemble category.[5][6]
