Almoradí (Spanish pronunciation: [almoɾaˈði]) is a town and municipality located in the comarca of Vega Baja del Segura, in the province of Alicante, Spain, close to the mouth of the river Segura. Almoradí has an area of 42.7 km² and, according to the 2008 census, a total population of 18,536 inhabitants. The economy of Almoradí is mainly based on agriculture (vegetables, fruits and lemons). The most important monuments in the city are the Ancient Hospital and the mill of Alfeitamí. Almoradi is bursting with cafes, shops, tapas bars and restaurants as well as banks and supermarkets. The church and town square, with its famous polo mint trees. Not to be missed is the famous Saturday market that takes over the main square area. The nearest airports are Alicante and Murcia - both about half an hour drive away. The lovely sandy ‘blue-flag’ beach of Guardamar is a short 15 min drive away.The larger bustling seaside resort of Torrevieja with its sea front promenade, lively nightlife, nightclub, bowling, cinema, casino, waterpark and hypermarkets is also only 20 mins drive. With Almoradi being only five minutes from the motorway, Alicante, La Manga, Murcia, Elche, and Benidorm are just a few places within easy driving distance offering you a variety of tourist attractions from water/theme parks to caves, castle and safari park/zoo.
