Australian Curriculum, Assessment and Reporting Authority
The Australian Curriculum, Assessment and Reporting Authority (ACARA) is the independent authority responsible for the development of a national curriculum, a national assessment program and a national data collection and reporting program that supports 21st century learning for all Australian students.[1]
ACARA's work is carried out in collaboration with a wide range of stakeholders, including teachers, principals, governments, State and Territory education authorities, professional education associations, community groups and the general public. It was established in 2008 by an Act of the Australian Federal Parliament.[2] The authority is also responsible for the My School website and NAPLAN testing.
Development of Learning Areas
The Australian Curriculum has been divided by ACARA into the following learning areas for the purposes of development of the curriculum, its assessment, and reporting (F being Foundation Year): Arts F-10, English F-10, English 11-12, Health and Physical Education F-10, Civics and Citizenship 3-10, Economics and Business 5-10, Geography F-1, History F-10, History 11-12, Languages F-10, Mathematics F-10, Mathematics 11-12, Science F-10, Science 11-12, Technologies F-10, National Trade Cadetships F-10, National Trade Cadetships 11-12.
Progress of the development of each learning area is published and updated regularly on the official site.[3]

ACARA as an administrating body is distinct from The Australian Curriculum, which can be accessed at its own website.[4] Full curricula can be downloaded by any member of the public.
