The 2016 IQA World Cup is the third edition of the IQA World Cup, the international quidditch championship organized by the International Quidditch Association. It will be held at the Rebstockanlage in Frankfurt, Germany on 23–24 July 2016.[1] The United States are the undefeated defending champions, having won the 2012 and 2014 editions. More than 20 nations are expected to compete, including Australia,[2] Canada,[3][4] Ireland,[5] and the United Kingdom.[6] A crowdfunding campaign aimed to send the Ugandan team as the first ever African nation to compete internationally.[7] However, the team members failed to obtain a German visa and dropped out of the competition.[8] A documentary entitled Fly The Movie: Journey To Frankfurt will follow the British team in their preparation before the Cup.[9]

Draw
The 2014 World medalists and the 2015 European finalists are placed in Pod 1. Other teams who have participated in international tournaments fill up Pods 2 through 4 based on their finishing rank. Teams participating for the first time are placed randomly in Pods 4 and 5.[10]

The teams were drawn into five groups of four or five teams, with one team per pod in each group, and Pod 5 teams assigned to three randomly chosen groups. Every group was guaranteed at least one non-European team.[11] However, with Peru[12][13] and Uganda[8] withdrawing, only one five-team pool is left, and Pool 1 consists of European teams only.

Structure
After the pool play, all teams will be seeded and move on to the bracket phase. Teams will be seeded according to the following criteria:
- Rank in pool;
- Number of losses;
- Head-to-head result;
- Average point differential (With a cap of 120, includes snitch catches);
- Snitch catch percentage;
- Coin flip.
Since all teams will participate to the bracket phase, seeds 12 to 21 will start with play-in games whereas seeds 1 to 11 will get a bye to the round of 16. During bracket play, each round beginning with the round of 16 will generate a consolation bracket. The bracket phase will determine the final ranking for teams 1 to 16.[14]
