• January 5 – Senator Panfilo Lacson left the Philippines, shortly before charges against him were filed for being the alleged mastermind in the murder of publicist Bubby Dacer and his driver Emmanuel Corbito as claimed by former policeman Cesar Mancao.^[1]
• January 14 – Dr. Mercedes B. Concepcion and Dr. Ernesto O. Domingo were conferred the title and rank of National Scientist for Demography and Internal Medicine, respectively.^[2]

• February 21 – One Abu Sayyaf senior leaders, Albader Parad, has been killed.^[3]

• March 4 – National Scientist Lourdes J. Cruz was recognised as one of the five laureates of L'Oreal-UNESCO Awards for Women in Science for the discovery of conotoxins produced by certain marine snails that can serve as painkillers and pharmaceutical probes to study brain function.^[4]

• May 10 – Automated national elections was held in the Philippines for the first time.^[5]

June

July

• July 14 – Typhoon Conson, locally known as Basyang, hits Metro Manila.^[7]
• July 26 – President Benigno S. Aquino III delivered his first State of the Nation Address (SONA).^[8]

August

• August 2 – Ivan Padilla, leader of a notorious carjacking group, was killed following a shootout with law enforcers in Makati City.^[9][10]
• August 18 – A bus bound for La Union plunged into a 150-foot deep ravine in Sablan, Benguet, killing 42 passengers and injured 9 others including the driver and the conductor.^[11][12][13]

• August 23 – Hostage-taking incident in Quirino Grandstand. This incident caused the straining of ties between Hong Kong and the Philippines.^[14]
• August 31 – Filipino physicists Christopher Bernido and Ma. Victoria Carpio-Bernido were among this year's recipients of the Ramon Magsaysay Awards.^[15]

September

• September 13 – President Benigno Aquino III appointed Philippine National Police (PNP) Deputy Director General Raul Bacalzo as the new PNP Director, replacing General Jesus Verzosa, who retired on September 14, 2010.^[16]

• September 26 – An explosion rocks the De La Salle University in Manila during the last day of the 2010 Bar Exams.^[17]

• October 18 – Typhoon Megi, locally known as Juan, hits northern Luzon. It was among the most intense tropical cyclones ever recorded.^[18][19]
• October 25 – Barangay and Sangguniang Kabataan (SK) elections are held in the Philippines.^[20]

November

• November 23 – Department of Tourism (DOT) Undersecretary Vicente Romano III officially resigned his post, as a result of a controversial tourism promotion campaign called "Pilipinas Kay Ganda".^[21]
• November 30 – Former policeman Gerardo Biong, convicted in the Vizconde massacre case, is freed after 15 years of imprisonment. Biong was found guilty of burning bedsheets and tampering with other evidence in the crime.^[22]

December

• December 1 – Hundreds of kuliglig drivers launched protests against a Manila City ordinance banning them from major thoroughfares. The motorcade started from Plaza Lawton to the SC in Padre Faura in Manila and paralyzed traffic in major portions of the city.^[23]
• December 6 – The Department of Interior and Local Government (DILG) created a tracker team to hunt down Senator Panfilo Lacson. The team was composed of members of the Philippine National Police (PNP) and the National Bureau of Investigation (NBI).^[24]
• December 7 – The Supreme Court (SC) declared as "unconstitutional" Executive Order No. 1, creating the Truth Commission. The Philippine Truth Commission was created by President Benigno Aquino III and tasked to investigate cases of graft and corruption during the Arroyo administration.^[25]
• December 10 – President Benigno S. Aquino III ordered the release of "Morong 43" (43 health workers arrested as suspected communist rebels in February 2010), saying their rights were violated.^[26][27]
• December 14 – Hubert Webb and six other convicted in the Vizconde massacre case were acquitted by the Supreme Court, based primarily on inconsistent testimonies of witness Jessica Alfaro during trial.^[28][29]

According to the Bangko Sentral ng Pilipinas, the new peso bills have special security features and quality material.^[30] However, several errors have been discovered on the banknotes and have become the subject of ridicule by critics.^[31]

• December 16 – The Bangko Sentral ng Pilipinas (Central Bank of the Philippines) announced the release of new peso bills and presented their new design.^[32]
• December 19 – A fire in a lodging house in Tuguegarao City killed 15 people and injured 14 others.^[33][34]
• December 20 – After 7 years in detention, Senator Antonio Trillanes IV was released from jail.^[35][36]
• December 27 – President Benigno S. Aquino III signed the P1.645-trillion national budget for 2011.^[37][38]

• March 13 – Boxing: Manny Pacquiao defeats Joshua Clottey, controlling the fight from start to finish and winning by unanimous decision. This was the first boxing match held at Cowboys Stadium in Arlington, Texas, drawing more than 41,000 people. This was Pacquiao's first defense of his newly awarded WBO welterweight title.
