The 1984 New Zealand National Basketball League season was the third running of the competition. Two teams from the previous year, Porirua (finished in last place) and Waitemata, were dropped from the league, while Ponsonby was admitted to the league alongside 1983 Conference Basketball League champions Hamilton. Hamilton re-entered the NBL after being demoted to the CBL following their second-last place finish in 1982. The Wellington Saints won the championship in 1984 to claim their first league title, beating out an Auckland side who were back-to-back defending champions.[1]
